PREPARING FOR YOUR WAX

Hair length

In order to have a wax, there needs to be some hair for the wax to hold onto. It is recommended to have about 1/4 of an inch in length. This is about 2-3 weeks of growth after shaving.

Particularly for women

The skin is most sensitive around the menstrual cycle, which can cause waxing to be more painful than normal. Therefore, try to schedule your appointment two days before or after your menstrual cycle. However, you can still wax if you are on your period.

Exfoliate

While the skin on the face is generally exfoliated enough for waxing, the body needs a little help. A somewhat gritty body scrub will help rid dead cells around skin pores and hair follicles, providing an easier exit. Shower and lightly exfoliate the entire area that you plan to wax the day before your appointment, using warm (not hot) water — this only applies to body waxing, not facial waxing.

Pain preventers

Take an Ibuprofen or Advil 30-45 minutes before your appointment if you are worried about pain. There is also a numbing cream available for an additional $10 — please arrive 20 minutes before your scheduled appointment time.

Reduce acidity

Smoking, regular caffeine and alcohol consumption creates a lot of acid in the body. Taking Tums 20 minutes before your service can help reduce acidity and reduce skin sensitivity.

Try not to drink caffeine or alcohol before a wax. While having a couple glasses of wine or beer before getting a wax may sound like a great idea, stimulants in the system will cause the skin to be very sensitive to waxing. If you drink coffee or alcohol, try to do it at least a couple of hours before your wax appointment and then be sure to drink plenty of water to hydrate your skin.

Regrowth

Because hair grows in different cycles, sometimes the very first wax may cause some stubble after a couple of days. It is not the waxed hair already growing, it is another cycle that was still in the skin during waxing. While this is usually only a small amount of hair, for smoother results, wax twice before an event or vacation. The second hair cycle is more even and there will be less regrowth.

AFTER YOUR WAX

In the first 24-48 hours you may experience some sensitivity like redness or irritation in the area that was treated. These are normal and there is usually less reaction the longer you wax.

Here are some tips to follow during the first 48 hours after waxing

• Do not use any exfoliating products, especially ones containing acids, as they may further irritate your skin.

• Showers are better than baths. Use only lukewarm water (not hot).

• No saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools or other heated sources.

• Do not expose the treated area to ultra-violet rays (indoor or outdoor). Protect your skin by applying sunscreen.

• Avoid heavy exercise for at least 24 hours.

• To avoid ingrown hairs, don’t wear tight clothes for the next couple of days.

• Resist touching freshly waxed skin, especially on the face, as this may cause irritation and breakouts.

• Sexual activity should be avoided for at least 24 hours.

• To avoid ingrown hair exfoliate waxed area (starting after 48 hours since treatment) twice-three times a week to get rid of dead skin layer, so your hair can grow above skin surface.

Also applying ingrown hair solution like PFB vanish or FINIPIL will help maintain smooth skin AND PREVENT INGROWNS.

AVOID FOR 24HRS AFTER WAXING

• Makeup (if face is waxed).

• Deodorant with aluminum.

• Salt Glow or stimulating body or facial treatments.
